Marabino is a roughly 30-hectare certified biodynamic estate near Noto and Pachino in Sicily’s deep southeast, run by winemaker Pierpaolo Messina, who has earned a strong reputation for reinventing Nero d’Avola — trading the grape’s typical jammy, oaky heaviness for wines of purity, tension, and terroir. The estate’s Nero d’Avola bottlings (from the entry Noto/Rosso di Contrada up to the flagship Archimede and newer soil-specific Terre Calcaree and Terre Argillose cuvées) come from old bush vines on limestone and clay soils cooled by sea breezes, fermented spontaneously with minimal intervention and aged largely in steel or cement rather than new oak.
